Pearl River has setback at Pensacola State tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Pearl River volleyball team had its first setback of the 2025 season Friday at the Pensacola State Tournament, falling to Calhoun 3-1 (12-25, 25-21, 15-25, 23-25) and No. 10 Pensacola State 3-0 (18-25, 11-25, 19-25).

The Wildcats showed fight in the second set against Calhoun. After dropping the first set 25-12, PRCC rallied to take the second 25-21 behind a clutch ace from Lindsey Hall (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove), a kill from Reagan Ziegler (Lacombe, La.; Lakeshore), and key blocks by Avery Wheat (Gonzales, La.; East Ascension) and Morgan Mears (Hurley; East Central). The third and fourth sets slipped away 25-15 and 25-23 despite late rallies and a tip by Mears that extended a critical point in the fourth set.

Later, PRCC faced host Pensacola State. The Wildcats stayed competitive in multiple rallies, including strong net play from Lila Willett (Chelsea, Ala.) and Ziegler, but the Pirates pulled away to secure a sweep.
