POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Brooke Fagan (Kiln; Hancock) has found her next home on the diamond — Mississippi College.
Pearl River's star shortstop made her commitment official Thursday, signing her National Letter of Intent while being flanked by her family, coaches and teammates.
"The coaches, players and everyone there made me feel at home," Fagan said. "I'm excited to go, meet new people and create new relationships."
Pearl River coach Christie Meeks is proud of Fagan's decision to sign with the Choctaws.
"She's wise beyond her years," Meeks said. "She knows what she wants. She had opportunities to go D-I and chose where she knows will be a great fit for her. What a great opportunity that is. When you're bought into a program you play 10 times over your head. I think Mississippi College is getting a phenomenal player — not only a phenomenal player, but a phenomenal kid."
While Fagan's ability is clear by looking at the stat sheet, Meeks said her shortstop's impact on the team goes well beyond her batting average.
"Everyone looks to her," Meeks said. "She's able to keep our younger catchers together and our pitchers calm. All around, Brooke is just an unbelievable person on and off the field and I think they play for her."
STANDOUT SHORTSTOP
Fagan made an immediate impact on the Wildcats as a freshman in 2019. Batting atop the order, Fagan hit .355 with a .432 on-base percentage and .529 slugging percentage. The shortstop also tallied 13 doubles, four homers, 24 RBIs, stole 13 bases and scored 44 runs. Her standout performance landed her on the All-Region XXIII and All-MACJC squads.
Fagan hasn't missed a beat as a sophomore. Following Wednesday's split with Eunice, Fagan is among the team's leaders in every major category. The Kiln native is hitting .400 with a .529 OBP and .745 slugging. 10 extra-base hits, 19 RBIs, 19 runs scored. She has also stolen seven bases.
"I have to give God all the glory," Fagan said. "All my past coaches from high school to this point have pushed me and made me a better player each and every day. I have to give all the credit to my teammates, too, because they push me daily. I also want to thank Coach Meeks, Coach (Hannah) Sparks and Coach (Kourtney) Leblanc for trusting me and pushing me to be the best I can be."
Fagan is the first Wildcat to sign with MC since Courtney Dickens in 2009.
