No. 14 Pearl River draws with Southwest, shifts focus to playoffs

SUMMIT, Miss. — The No. 14 Pearl River women's soccer team closed out the 2025 regular season Tuesday with a 2-2 road draw against Southwest.

The Wildcats now shift their focus to Friday's Gulf South District Quarterfinal at rival Jones College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The match will be livestreamed at JCBobcats.com/watch and tickets can be purchased at JCBobcats.com/tickets.

"Tonight was more about getting through the game without injuries so that we'll be ready to go on Friday," head coach Henrik Madsen said. "Matching up with Jones will be just like always — high intensity. It's two teams that know each other really well, so we're looking forward to it."

Pearl River (10-3-2 overall; 6-3-2 MACCC) struck first 20 minutes into the contest. Coming off the bench, Addy Grace Alexander (Poplarville) immediately made an impact. After two PRCC attempts were denied by the SMCC keeper, Alexander hammered home the rebound to make it 1-0.

Just three minutes later, Isabella Nielsen (Vejle, Denmark) doubled the lead. Off a corner kick from Callie Jones (Laurel; West Jones), Nielsen rose above the defense and headed the ball into the net to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Southwest (6-6-4; 2-6-3) responded with a goal in the 35th minute, trimming the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime. The Bears then found the equalizer in the 80th minute to level the match at 2-2.

The Wildcats pressed for a late winner but couldn't find the finishing touch as the regular season concluded with the draw.
