FULTON, Miss. — No. 14 Pearl River women's soccer had to battle its way back into the match Tuesday afternoon at Itawamba but left Fulton with a hard-fought 2-2 draw.
Pearl River (9-3-1 overall; 5-3-1 MACCC) struck first, moving ahead of Itawamba (6-4-4; 3-3-3) just 10 minutes into the match. Addy Grace Alexander (Poplarville) carried the ball down the left wing and cut into the middle of the box before firing a shot that was blocked by an Indian center back. The rebound fell to Ida Lillebæek (Vejle, Denmark), who took one touch to her right and buried a shot into the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Itawamba responded quickly, equalizing in the 23rd minute and adding the go-ahead goal in the 39th. The goals had the Wildcats on their heels as they entered halftime trailing. PRCC found the equalizer in the 68th minute when Isabella Nielsen (Vejle, Denmark) found the back of the net for the second time this season, leveling the score at 2-2.
Pearl River pressed for the game-winner in the final 22 minutes but ultimately settled for the 2-2 draw.
