| Title: | Assistant Coach |
Pearl River golf head coach Coby Scarborough has announced the addition of Wes Martin as an assistant coach, where he will lead the women's program while assisting with the men's team.
"I'm very excited to have Coach Martin join our staff," Scarborough said. "His résumé is impeccable, and he has already made tremendous progress in building a culture of unity, pride, and accountability for our players. His experience and knowledge of the game will be an incredible asset to the growth and development of our teams."
Martin joins the Pearl River family with more than 25 years of experience as a player, coach, and instructor at the collegiate, high school, and junior levels, along with over a decade of experience in sports administration. He is a certified USGA member and a certified golf instructor. Martin played collegiately at Gulf Coast during the 2007-08 seasons and hopes to impact his players in the same ways the game has influenced his own life.
"I think about the coaches and people who have impacted my life through the game of golf," Martin said. "People like Billy and Sheryl Applewhite, who gave me my first set of clubs and taught me how to play when I was eight years old. I think of Tommy Snell for giving me the opportunity to play at the collegiate level, as well as some of my college teammates and competitors who remain some of my best friends to this day.
"Golf has given me so much in life, and I look forward to this opportunity to help continue growing the game. Developing young players and building a team is something I'm truly passionate about and excited for. It's going to be a lot of fun."
Martin will also play a key role in recruiting for both the men's and women's programs.
"Coach Martin has a deep understanding of the high school and junior golf landscape across the Southeast," Scarborough said. "His knowledge in this area will help us in a big way on the recruiting trail."
