SENATOBIA, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team wrapped up its regular season at the Northwest Rodeo over the weekend, with the Wildcat men finishing ninth with 20 points and the women placing fifth with 130 points. Despite the close of the regular season, Tyler Porter (Tylertown) will continue his year on the national stage after qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo June 14-20 in Casper, Wyoming.
Porter punched his ticket to the CNFR in both calf roping and steer wrestling. Additional information regarding his national finals appearances will be released once announced by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
At Northwest, Gentry Silver (Iowa, La.; Bell City) was the lone Wildcat cowboy to advance to the short go. Silver opened the weekend with a 10.7-second run before posting a 17.3 in the finals to collect 20 team points.
On the women's side, Jenna Johnson (Mt. Olive; Mize) delivered one of Pearl River's top performances of the weekend in barrel racing, placing third overall. Johnson sat in third after the long round with a 13.93 before improving to a 13.86 in the championship round. Her combined time of 27.79 earned 130 points for the Wildcats.
