POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River rodeo put together a solid showing on its home dirt last weekend, with both the men's and women's teams finishing sixth overall. The men totaled 230 points, while the women added 55.

Freshman Tyler Porter (Tylertown) headlined the weekend with a win in tie-down roping, putting together the most complete performance for the Wildcats. Porter clocked a 9.7-second run in the long round to sit second heading into the short go, then stayed clean with an 11.1 to claim the average title at 20.8 seconds. He racked up 160 points in the process.

Pearl River's presence in the tie-down continued with Gentry Silver (Iowa, La.; Bell City) and Bryson Crawford (Felda, Ala.) both advancing to the short go. Silver entered the finals in sixth with a 13.3, while Crawford posted a 15.6 in the long round. Both came up empty in the championship round.

In steer wrestling, Tate Joiner (Husser, La.; Loranger) was the lone Wildcat to reach the short go. He turned in a 7.0-second run in the long round and followed with a 15.5 in the finals to place sixth overall.

On the women's side, Darby Poole (Robertsdale, Ala.) accounted for all 55 points after advancing to the short go in breakaway roping. Poole fired off a 2.6-second run in the long round — tying for the top spot — but was unable to post a time in the finals.
