Pearl River’s John Bowman named MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River freshman John Bowman (Bay St. Louis; Bay) has statistically been among the NJCAA's top goalkeepers for much of the season.

On Tuesday, the Wildcat newcomer was named the MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week. The honor comes after a 2-0 week for the undefeated Wildcats (4-0-1 overall; 4-0 South Division).

Bowman turned away five shots in PRCC's 6-2 victory over Southwest last Tuesday; he had received a yellow card and was not in goal for the Bears' two goals.

The freshman then saved all four shots he faced Friday in a 4-0 shutout at Jones College. The clean sheet was Bowman's third on the young season.

Through five games, Bowman has stopped 19 of 20 shots he has faced. His 0.19 goals against average is currently eighth in the NJCAA and second in the MACJC. Bowman's .950 save percentage is good enough for seventh nationally.

He's also second in the NJCAA with three shutouts.
