PRCC's Tubb, Cochran qualify for district tournament

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. — Pearl River's season came down to a narrow margin at the MACCC Championship, where a seventh-place finish left the Wildcats just 10 strokes shy of competing at the district tournament, but not without standout performances from Seth Tubb (Hattiesburg; Presbyterian Christian) and Jeremiah Cochran (Gautier; Covenant Christian Academy)  to keep their postseason hopes alive as individuals.

Competing at Brookhaven Country Club, the Wildcats posted a 37-over-par total to finish seventh in the 2026 MACCC Championship. Only the top six teams advanced to the Gulf South District Tournament, leaving Pearl River just outside the cutoff despite a competitive showing across both rounds.

While the team fell short of qualifying, two Wildcats secured individual spots in the district tournament. Tubb earned his berth with a 75.9 scoring average, while Cochran punched his ticket with an 18th-place finish at this week's championship.

Tubb led Pearl River with an eighth-place finish, marking his second top-10 performance of the season. The freshman opened with a 74 that included three birdies before delivering one of the tournament's strongest rounds on day two. He birdied the first two holes, rebounded from a bogey on No. 3 with an eagle on No. 4 and a birdie on No. 5, and later added back-to-back birdies on the back nine. His 4-under stretch early in the round propelled him to a 68 and a two-over-par total for the tournament.

Cochran followed with a two-day total of six-over-par to place 18th. He paced the team in the opening round with an even-par 72, highlighted by birdies on the par-three 11th and par-five 16th. The sophomore added three more birdies in the second round, including another on No. 16, along with birdies on holes four and 12 to card a 74. He closed strong, playing holes 15 through 18 at one-under-par.

Riley Barnett (Lakeville, Minn.; Lakeville South) finished 40th overall at 15-over-par. He recorded a 77 in the first round, highlighted by a birdie on No. 4 and an eagle on the par-five 14th. Barnett added another birdie in the second round and strung together seven consecutive pars, but closed with an 80.

William Dickerson (Gautier) posted rounds of 78 in both days to finish at 16-over-par. He tallied 10 pars in his opening round and added a birdie on the par-five fourth in the second. Dickerson's most consistent stretch came early, playing holes two through six at one-under-par.

Bo Ashley (Purvis) rounded out the lineup with an 18-over-par finish, placing 48th. He notched three birdies in the first round, including a six-hole stretch under par from holes 12 through 17. In the second round, Ashley added back-to-back birdies on holes four and five. His birdie on No. 4 contributed to Pearl River's combined eight-under-par performance on that hole across the tournament.
