Pearl River football preparing for season finale

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River football team looks to finish the year strong when the Wildcats travel to Ellisville to face Jones Thursday at 7 p.m. Pearl River fell last week to No. 12 Hinds in its final home game of the 2025 season.

ABOUT PEARL RIVER 
The Wildcats (1-7 overall; 0-5 MACCC) come into the finale averaging 326.5 yards of offense per game, led by wide receiver-turned-quarterback Kobe Pierce (Laurel). In his two starts this season, Pierce has completed 59.6% of his 57 pass attempts for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Pierce is targeting a pair of receivers on the brink of 400 yards this season. Kedrick Tripplett (Florence, Ala.) has 399 yards and five touchdowns on 25 receptions, while Howard Kinchen (Lafayette, La.; Patterson) has 364 yards on 32 catches and is tied with Tripplett with five touchdowns.

The rushing attack for Pearl River is led by Keenan Franks (State Line; Greene County), who has averaged 85.8 yards per game through eight contests. Franks has totaled 686 yards and eight touchdowns, ranking third in the MACCC in rushing yards and tied for fourth in rushing touchdowns.

Daniel Pickens (Gautier; Resurrection) leads the Wildcats' defense with 59 total tackles, along with an interception and five pass breakups. Garrett Orgas (Vicksburg; Warren Central) adds 45 tackles, including three tackles for loss, along with five pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

Defensive standout Jalen Anderson (Slidell, La.) has recorded six sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and an interception returned 66 yards this season. His six sacks place him just behind the MACCC leader, while his tackles for loss rank fifth in the conference.

On special teams, Cory Jackson (Petal) has led the MACCC in kick return yards with 715 and is tied for first in the conference with one touchdown.

ABOUT JONES COLLEGE
Jones (4-4; 1-4) comes into the game behind freshman quarterback Jevarion Glover. Glover has completed 108 of 160 passes for 1,128 yards and five touchdowns through eight games. The dual-threat quarterback has also rushed for 450 yards and seven touchdowns, but has struggled with turnovers, totaling five interceptions and three fumbles on the season.

The Bobcats' top receivers are Ty Keyes and Kaiden Smith. Keyes leads the team with 582 yards on 31 receptions, averaging 97 yards per game, and has two touchdowns. Smith leads the team in receiving touchdowns with three and has 267 yards on the season.

Ky'Yon Harris anchors the running game and has been a consistent force for Jones all season. He has rushed for 557 yards and nine touchdowns on 100 carries, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Harris has been particularly effective in red-zone situations, giving the Bobcats a reliable scoring threat on the ground. 

Defensively, Jones allows just under 22 points per game. Tay James leads the team with 48 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Isaiah Lindsey tops the team in sacks with 3.5 and has also forced a fumble.
