BILOXI, Miss. — The Pearl River baseball program was given another incredible opportunity Wednesday night as the No. 2 Wildcats traveled to Biloxi to face the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Biloxi Shuckers.
Pearl River came up short in the contest, but not without a milestone. The Wildcats broke through for their first runs in the four-year series, though the Shuckers ultimately pulled away for a 14-2 win.
"This is an incredible opportunity for our guys," head coach Michael Avalon said. "We're really thankful to the Biloxi Shuckers for continuing to provide this experience. It gives our players a chance to see the next level up close — how those guys prepare, how they carry themselves and how they play the game. It's something they'll remember for a long time."
The Wildcats struck first in the top of the opening inning when hometown product Logan Fontenelle (Biloxi) lined an RBI single through the left side. Gardner Young (Madison; Jackson Prep) added Pearl River's second run with an RBI in the sixth.
Kyler King (Picayune) paced the offense with two hits, while Chap Cook (Canton; Canton Academy) added one.
Nico Williams (Gulfport), Slade Shove-Knox (Sulphur, La.), Tyrese Johnson (West Point), Jackson Hood (Madison; Germantown), Gabe Hodges (Flowood; Northwest Rankin), Trace McDonald (Sandy Hook; West Marion), Tanner Busby (Picayune), Wilkes Johnson (Jackson; Madison-Ridgeland Academy) and JP Abt (Brandon; Hartfield Academy) each made appearances on the mound for PRCC.
