POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River baseball's Coy Clements (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove) and softball's Jaycee Holifield (Laurel; Stringer) have been named ForrestHealth Wildcats of the Week for their standout performances.
COY CLEMENTS
Clements cemented his place in Pearl River baseball history this week, hitting his 21st home run of the season against No. 2 East Central to set the program's single-season home run record.
After finishing that game with three hits and five RBIs, the redshirt freshman extended his record against No. 24 Northwest with his 22nd home run of the season. Over the week, Clements totaled four hits, four RBIs and six walks while posting a .636 batting average and a .762 on-base percentage.
On the season, Clements is batting .427 with 66 RBIs. The catcher has recorded 24 multi-hit games, with his top performance coming March 21 against East Mississippi, when he collected four hits.
JAYCEE HOLIFIELD
Holifield put together a standout week at the plate, finishing with 10 RBIs and two home runs. The freshman had a two-hit performance against East Central, driving in six of her 10 RBIs in that game. She also recorded her second multi-home run game of the season, launching two long balls against the Warriors.
She followed that up by going 3-for-4 with two walks in the series against No. 17 Northwest. In Game 1, she went 1-for-1 with three RBIs, including a two-run single and a sacrifice fly.
On the season, Holifield is hitting .375 with 15 home runs. The second baseman has driven in 46 runs, is tied for the team lead with 11 doubles and has scored 46 runs. She has also added eight stolen bases on the basepaths.
