POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River standouts Hannah Embry (Vicksburg; Porter's Chapel Academy) and Landon Gartman (Bogue Chitto; Enterprise) have been named the Forrest General Wildcats of the Week.
Monday's announcement marks Embry's second time to receive the honor.
HANNAH EMBRY
Embry was lights out in the circle last week for the Wildcats, picking up wins in both of PRCC's victories over East Central. In total, the freshman struck out 16 in 11 1/3 inning while limiting ECCC to five hits and three walks. Embry tossed a complete game in the opener and then pitched the final 4 1/3 innings in Game 2 to earn the victory.
Embry is currently tied for first among the NJCAA's Division II programs with seven wins on the year. Additionally, her 55 strikeouts rank fourth. Embry currently boasts a 2.40 ERA.
LANDON GARTMAN
Gartman turned in an impressive performance for No. 7 Pearl River in last Thursday's 9-0 win at No. 4 Northwest. The Memphis signee struck out seven in 7 shutout innings, allowing just five hits without walking anyone.
Overall this season, Gartman is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He has also racked up 20 strikeouts in 18 innings of work.
NEXT UP
Both teams will be back in action Wednesday against Gulf Coast. The softball team (11-3 overall; 4-0 MACCC) hosts MGCCC at 2 p.m., while the baseball team (12-4, 2-2) visits Perkinston for a 3 p.m. start.
