POPLARVILLE — Pearl River's Candyce Martin (Gautier) was rewarded for an outstanding week on the pitch Tuesday when she was named the MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week.
Martin played tough in a 0-0 draw against Gulf Coast last Tuesday, turning away all 12 shots she faced through 179 minutes.
The former Gautier standout then stood tall in PRCC's 4-1 win at Southwest on Saturday, stopping two of three shots she faced in 70 minutes.
Martin is 3-3-1 on the year with one shutout in 598 minutes in net. She also boasts a 1.51 goals against average and a .796 save percentage, having turned away 39 shots over seven matches.
Martin wasn't alone in earning an honor from the MACJC. Wildcat keeper Kobe Lie (Hattiesburg; Forrest County AHS) earned the men's award as well.
The Lady Wildcats travel to Meridian on Tuesday night before returning to Poplarville on Friday to play Jones College in the final home match of the season.
