Pearl River signs Brandon guard who can ‘score from anywhere’

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River women's basketball coach Scotty Fletcher believes the Wildcats added a dose of instant offense to the program with their latest signee. On Thursday, Fletcher announced PRCC has signed Brandon High guard Gabby Collier.

The 5-foot-7 guard joins a 2021 class that already includes Murrah's TyRaven McGowan, DeSoto Central's Rachel Hightower, Gulfport's Amaijah Smith and Tupelo duo Jaliscia Florence and Halle Traylor.

"We are overly excited and thrilled to welcome Gabby and her first-class family to our program," Fletcher said. "Gabby is a proven winner, competitor, and the shooter/playmaker this signing class needs. She can shoot and score from anywhere and that's something I look forward to coaching and mentoring. She also comes from an athletic family; her mother played basketball in college and her aunt was a phenomenal point guard at William Carey when I was playing for the Crusaders.

"My staff did a wonderful job of building a strong relationship with her and her family. There is no question she will make a huge impact on our campus, community, and program."

Collier's Bulldogs have experienced plenty of success during her tenure, winning 17 games as a sophomore and 22 a year ago. Entering Thursday, BHS was off to a 5-0 start for the 2020-21 season.

Collier scored 6.7 points as a sophomore and led BHS a year ago, averaging 14.3. In addition to leading Brandon this year, Collier's 16.0 ppg rank 14th in Mississippi.

Collier has also collected numerous honors, including being the 2018-19 6th Woman of the Year, 18-19 all-state honorable mention and a selection in the Mississippi Association of Coaches North-South All-Star Game. Collier also competes in golf at BHS.
