Pearl River women’s basketball giving back to community before season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The 2019-20 women's basketball season is days away but that isn't stopping the Pearl River women's basketball team from continuing one of head coach Scotty Fletcher's favorite traditions.

The Wildcats traveled to Hattiesburg on Thursday to visit the Fieldhouse Homeless Shelter and spend time with the residents.

This year is the fifth straight time the Wildcats have visited the shelter prior to the season beginning.

"Every year we do this we leave with a new attitude, experience and feeling," Fletcher said. "Our girls did a phenomenal job of mingling and bonding with the people there at the shelter. Obviously these young women come here to play basketball but they leave here with an education and also a better understanding of life skills and being grateful for the small things and yesterday was a great example of that."

PRCC's basketball teams will open the 2019-20 season Monday with a home doubleheader against Delgado. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. All home games will be livestreamed on PRCCMedia.com/gold and can be heard on the WRJW Radio app.
